For sale: well-maintained, recently inspected Japan’s Mercedes — Toyota’s top model, the Camry, in a later body style.

This is Toyota’s luxury model and it shows. The car is exceptionally spacious both inside and in the boot. Easily seats five large adults and has plenty of room for a weekend’s luggage.

The interior is almost like new. The exterior is tidy for its age; arches show some corrosion repairs (photographed) that were done competently. Not ugly. Small surface rust spot on the tailgate (photographed). The car’s only exterior negatives are: the left front wing has had a dent (photographed) and the left mirror housing is slightly damaged (photographed). These are not noticeable unless you look closely.

The engine is Toyota’s robust petrol unit that won’t give up with use. A curious piece of engineering — a 2.4-litre four-cylinder that’s hard to break by driving. It’s the largest four-cylinder made, torquey and pleasant, and together with the manual gearbox gives low consumption (my average 6.4 l/100 km). Chain-driven — no timing-belt replacement worries.

The car sits on good-condition summer tyres on alloy wheels, and includes good-condition studded winter tyres (studs intact, 7 mm tread) on steel wheels.

The car is comfortable, large, spacious and warm — heats up quickly, a good winter car. In summer the automatic climate control keeps things comfortable (cold air flows well).

The car drives smoothly and the interior is pleasant and airy; the view from the driver’s seat is excellent and both driver and passengers are comfortable. Seats are great to sit in with good adjustments. Interior smell is clean — non-smoking. Lights are good, not faded, with a good beam pattern and visibility at night.

The big engine ensures safe overtaking and a comfortable ride. Overall, bomb-proof Toyota engineering.

Equipment includes, among others: electric windows x4, electric mirrors, central locking with key, tailgate and fuel flap release from inside, automatic climate control, rear window heater, powerful and good-sounding head unit, trip computer, cruise control, towbar, two sets of tyres, two keys (one with damaged plastic), front and rear fog lights — and I’ve probably forgotten something.

• Cabin air filter, spark plugs x4, replacement of outer CV joint gaiters within the last 2,000 km.

• Starter in May 2025.

• Receipt €698 from last year for partial replacement of the fuel tank piping.

So, a really good car for sale with reliable Toyota engineering — the best model. With this you only need to enjoy driving and the low running costs and change the oil occasionally.
