Up for auction: an older crossover ML 280 4Matic!

The car has seen years and kilometres, but externally it’s still in reasonable condition. The body has issues and needs work (see photos!), but with just under 400,000 km and about 20 years old that’s not surprising. There is rust in several places, and the Airmatic works 3/4 — the front-right air spring is leaking, which causes a "visit workshop" fault when the suspension is raised. The centre console display does not work, nor do the radio and other functions. Holding the start button briefly shows the Mercedes logo on the dash, but after about 3 seconds it goes out and nothing happens. The parking sensors are also not working; they are fitted front and rear!

Mechanically the car is otherwise OK: the gears shift and the cruise control works. The service book is present with all entries; the most recent service was in 2024!

So this is a project for someone who knows their stuff — an evening in the garage, and possibly back on the road; inspection valid until July.

Defects and other observations

During a short test drive we made the following observations:

  • Parking sensors not working

  • One air suspension bag likely leaking

  • In terms of driving the car behaves as it should: gears shift smoothly and the brakes work well. The engine also runs nicely.
