Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40 (1978) – Modified off-road vehicle

This 1978 Toyota BJ40 has been completely dismantled and restored, starting with the frame, so it should provide worry-free use for several years in that respect.

This is not a museum-quality showpiece, but a vehicle built for active off-road use. The body has signs of use and scratches, but the mechanics have been thoroughly inspected and restored to the highest standard.

Key information:

• Inspected and modification-inspected: The vehicle was built in Finland. All modifications (engine, axles, suspension and tyres) have been approved and recorded on the registration certificate.

• Model year 1978: No exhaust emissions testing at inspection

Engine and transmission:

• Engine: Mercedes-Benz OM606 turbo diesel.

• Turbocharger and performance: Holset HX35 Billet turbocharger. Dyno-tested at 350 hp / 600 Nm at 2.5 bar of boost (dyno sheets included).

• Gearbox: Mercedes-Benz W210 ("Väyrynen") six-speed manual.

• Transfer case: Toyota HJ60.

• Axles: Toyota HJ61.

• Drivetrain: Longfield chromoly CV joints and reinforced driveshafts.

Off-road capability and chassis:

• Lights: High-quality auxiliary lights (value approximately €1,000).

• Lockers: Pneumatically operated selectable lockers front and rear. The air system is powered by a 24 V compressor (also suitable for inflating tyres).

• Chassis and lift: Body lifted by 70 mm. Suspension consists of reinforced leaf springs.

• Tyres: Fitted with 35-inch mud tyres; the registration certificate permits tyres up to 37 inches.

• Winch: Little-used Runva winch.

• Safety and interior: Roll cage and bucket seats.

Build stages:

The vehicle was completely dismantled. The frame and body were cleaned of rust, protected and painted.

A ready-to-go package for serious off-road use.
