ORSIPUU GOODWOOD – rare Finnish shop and exhibition display system, over 400 parts!, Lohja

For sale is the extensive ORSIPUU GOODWOOD shop and exhibition display system shown in the photos, comprising 407 counted parts plus a large selection of various accessories and fittings.

This is a vintage Finnish modular display system made from high-quality wooden components. It was once used in the shop and exhibition stands of a company selling professional clothing and footwear.

The system is extremely versatile and easy to modify. Wooden horizontal bars of different lengths are fitted into perforated vertical posts; plastic friction sleeves at their ends hold the structure firmly together. The horizontal bars can be inserted through the holes to the desired depth, and the holes in the vertical posts alternate at 90-degree angles.

This allows the system to be used to build clothes rails, shoe racks, shelving, shop islands, display structures and complete exhibition stands, for example.

A PIECE OF FINNISH FURNITURE HISTORY

The ORSIPUU system has an interesting Finnish business and product-development history behind it.

Suomen Orsipuu Oy was a company based in Lohja, operating from 1980 to 2005, specialising in the manufacture and marketing of shop fittings for fashion-accessory shops.

The company’s managing director, Eero Tapojärvi, developed and patented wooden, modular shop display systems as early as the late 1970s.

For example, Finnish patent FI 61270 concerns a display stand made from perforated vertical posts and crossbars inserted through them. The structure of the Greenwood system offered here bears notable similarities to this invention, although it has not been verified whether this particular model is covered by the patent.

Some of the wooden components bear the original ORSIPUU GOODWOOD manufacturer’s mark.

This is an exceptionally large lot of parts from the same system. The collection can be used to build several separate shop fittings or larger display and exhibition structures.
