The oval 21-litre inner container inside the toilet, used with a biodegradable bag, is easy and hygienic to empty into a compost bin.

Particular attention has been paid to energy efficiency in the design of the Ekohytte Frost freezing toilet. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make the toilet highly economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh/24 hours—just half the consumption of comparable competing products. Thick insulation beneath the toilet and high adjustable feet allow the freezing toilet to be installed in a room with underfloor heating.

Luxury for the holiday-home setting
In addition to minimal electricity consumption, Ekohytte Frost stands out with its beautiful, minimalist design. Unlike other manufacturers’ products, the Ekohytte Frost seat ring is insulated. A hot-gas pipe runs through the frame beneath the seat ring, warming it by using the compressor’s waste heat. Before use

• After unpacking the product, check that it is undamaged. Contact the retailer if you notice any damage.

• Keep the appliance in its normal position for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have entered the pipe during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The appliance has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so that the toilet is stable and level.

• The toilet is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non-compostable in it, such as rubbish, sanitary towels, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette ends.

Positioning
The toilet must be placed indoors in a warm space. It can be used in a room with underfloor heating because it has thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases the appliance’s electricity consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. The optimal room temperature is +10 to +22°C, with a maximum of +30°C. The toilet must be placed level and stabilised using its feet.

Use

• Push the bottom of the bio-bag to the bottom of the container and fold its edges over the top so that the container can be placed in the toilet

• Check that the bucket handle is inside, allowing the seat ring and lid to close properly

• Plug into the wall and switch on the toilet so that the green indicator light comes on

• Wait approximately one hour before use

Emptying

• When the bucket is approximately two-thirds full, replace the bio-bag

• Fold the top edges of the bio-bag inside the container and lift the container out of the seat

• Compost the waste in a household or garden-waste composter, adding plenty of bedding material before emptying the waste

• Break the surface of the bag, for example with a fork, and cover it with a layer of bedding material

• Check whether ice has built up around the edges beneath the bucket. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

Use of bedding material
Bedding material is not required in the freezing toilet. It only needs to be added for secondary composting.

Cleaning
Clean Ekohytte by wiping it with a damp cloth. You can use any general household cleaner. The container can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing it. Do not use water to clean the rear wall. Clean it once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods of non-use

• Unplug the appliance

• Empty, clean and dry the container and cooling basin

• Leave the lid open

• The appliance can be stored in an unheated space
