Former Myrkyn village school seeks new life – historic courtyard available in Karijoki, Karijoki

The municipality of Karijoki is looking for a new owner for the former Myrkyn village school, someone with vision and a desire to develop this unique property.

A historic whole in a living village

The property complex of about 7,200 m² is located in a pleasant spot in the village of Myrkyn in Karijoki. The courtyard consists of two school buildings and several outbuildings.

The complex includes:

• the former Myrkyn school, built in the late 19th century

• a small school building from the 1920s

• an outbuilding suitable for many uses

• heating plant

• root cellar

• sauna building

Both school buildings are heated with wood chips.

The property offers versatile possibilities for living, business use, tourism, hobbies or community activities.

In recent years, the school buildings have housed, among other things, the Myrkyn branch library of the municipality of Karijoki, adult education and various clubs.

The nearby area has detached housing, a leisure centre with an outdoor swimming pool, and a wide range of hobby opportunities. The village of Myrkyn is also known for its active equestrian activities.

Movable property

Some of the movable property shown in the photos belongs to the municipality of Karijoki and the tenants of the property, and is not included in the sale as a whole.

Viewing the property and the buyer's duty of investigation

The bidder is required to familiarise themselves with the property before submitting an offer. Viewings are arranged separately.

The bidder is obliged to carefully review the property, the buildings, and the available documents and other information concerning the property.

No condition surveys have been carried out on the property or its buildings. The buyer must take into account the age and condition of the buildings, the technical age of the structures and systems, and the possible remaining service life of technical equipment.

The buildings and the entire property complex are sold in their condition at the time of sale. The municipality is not responsible for any defects, damage or harm that may later appear in the property or buildings.

After the sale, the buyer cannot invoke any matter that they have observed, or could have observed in an appropriate pre-inspection. The buyer is not entitled, on the basis of such matters, to a price reduction, damages, a refund of the purchase price or any other compensation.

A memorial to the Winter War departure is located in the schoolyard. The buyer undertakes to keep the memorial in place unless otherwise separately agreed in writing with the municipality.
