Here’s a Sorento for the home mechanic or even a repair shop worker – a last, sturdy model year!

• The body has remained in very good condition considering its age and mileage; there is hardly any rust visible on the outer panels. With a thorough wash and polishing it could look really good. Inside there is the usual used-car tidiness, but it can be cleaned up; there is some slight wear on the edge of the driver’s seat, otherwise the interior is intact.

  
  

• Equipment includes e.g. automatic climate control, cruise control, tow bar, 4x electric windows, remote central locking, engine heater + interior socket, ABS, airbags, etc. Everything seems to work, and it also has a Webasto heater, though it may be a running-time type; I could not find a control unit for it.

• The Hankook Dynapro tyres below are in decent condition with tread depth of over 5 mm on all, and for winter there are studded Hankook tyres with over 7.5 mm tread on all, with the studs stored separately; these are also on alloy wheels.

• The car has an excellent service history; oil has been changed regularly in the engine, gearbox and other drivetrain components. The service book has been photographed, and there is also a large stack of service receipts. Inspected on 11/08/2026 without remarks.

• The gearbox and four-wheel drive work, there are no extra noises and the gears shift smoothly. Four-wheel drive and drive mode selection work as they should.

• The car’s history has been known to us for a long time; the body or frame has not needed welding or rust repairs, so it should still have plenty of hard use left in it!

• And then the reason this is being sold at auction: there is an extra noise coming from the engine. We did not investigate it further when we took it in as a trade-in in this condition; after running it briefly and tapping around, the noise seems to come from the timing gear area. The engine runs smoothly on all cylinders, but the noise is rather unpleasant. Fluids and oil are at the correct level and clean, no warning lights are on, and it can be test-run and driven onto a trailer, but we do not recommend driving it any further to avoid additional damage. So it may be fixed with a timing chain repair, or perhaps not – be brave and find out?!?!
