The fuel flap does not close properly, but it does not affect driving.

The car has an engine fault. The injector for cylinder 2 and the return line have been replaced, but the problem remains. The follow-up work mentioned in the message below (replacement of the high-pressure pump, etc.) has not been carried out.

I drove the car home from the workshop (10 km) and it worked normally at low power. It makes a noise when accelerating.

Message: In the Golf, there has recently been an issue with rough idling, slight lack of power, a “clicking” or “popping” sound under heavier load, and grey smoke. The issue can be verified, for example, when accelerating in 3rd or 4th gear.

Fault code: P2002 - Particulate Trap Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold.

A forced DPF regeneration was carried out a week ago, and the car seemed to run better for about a day, but the symptoms returned quickly and became even milder within a few days.

I used some engine cleaner (Liqui Moly Diesel Purge) a couple of weeks ago, no effect.

The air filter has been replaced.

So the fault in the Golf should be investigated: what is clogging the particulate filter? EGR, injector, or air management issue?

Fault codes read and printed -> 2nd cylinder fuel injector rattles strongly at idle and especially when accelerating. Particulate filter code also in memory.

-> Start by replacing at least the 2nd cylinder injector and return line €1,111 (including diagnostics and injector coding) NOTE: provided it comes out normally.

-> CUSTOMER APPROVAL OK BY PHONE 14.7. at 17:20. If the car is ready by 15.7. then good, but otherwise there is no rush for it to be ready later that week as the customer is away then.

- Injector for cylinder 2 replaced + coded remotely, OK

-> Now the engine runs smoothly at idle

-> However, the high-pressure pump makes a very strong mechanical whirring/grinding/clicking noise.

-> The high-pressure pump must be replaced to get the correct pressure in the engine. Metal has likely come loose from the pump and clogged the injector on cylinder 2. It is not recommended to drive the car before the high-pressure pump has been replaced, so that no more injectors fail. (Somewhere else, the injector for cylinder 1 has apparently been replaced earlier, as it is not original)

High-pressure pump, its pulley, timing belt kit and water pump, as well as the necessary coolant, replaced €2,555, delivery time for the part approx. 3 days

In addition, it is impossible to say in advance whether the repair will be sufficient if metal has been released from the pump, as in the worst case the entire fuel system will need to be replaced

In addition, fault code P2002 may be related to an injector/fuel pressure fault, but it may also stem from a clogged EGR cooler.

This will unfortunately only become clear once the car's regeneration process has been completed.
