Vasaraisten School

The City of Rauma is selling part of the Jokela property (property ID 684-415-5-34), which includes the Vasaraisten school buildings.

Vasaraisten School is located in a regionally valued cultural landscape along a historic village street. Surrounded by lush fields, Vasarainen combines the peace of the countryside, a natural setting and access to city services. Rauma city centre is about six kilometres away.

The sale includes an estimated 10 645 m² parcel from property 684-415-5-34, the main building, shelters and the playground equipment in the yard. Vasaraisten School, located in the main building, served as a primary school until June 2026.

A condition survey of the property was completed in 2018, and the report is available as an attachment.

The Rauma master plan 2030, approved on 25 March 2019, is in force for the area. In the master plan, the school building is located in a village area (AT). The master plan provisions for village areas state the following: “In village areas, construction is guided by local master plans. If there is no legally binding local master plan guiding construction in the area, construction must take into account the community structure, village structure, landscape, cultural and natural values. The village structure is preserved as it is. No new villages are designated in the area and additional construction takes place within the existing village structure.” There is no local master plan in force for the area, but a building inventory has been prepared for the area, which also covers Vasaraisten School. The inventory states the following about Vasaraisten School:

”JOKELA (VASARAISTEN KOULU) 684-415-5-34 Nihattulantie 487, Vasarainen Class B: A site to be protected to a lesser extent. A timber-framed, gabled-roof school building originally completed in 1912, in a visually significant and prominent location on the historic village site of Vasarainen. The building was extended around the 1940s and in recent decades. Partly as a result of the extensions, other buildings on the school plot have disappeared. The original construction period is clearly visible and the building represents a solution typical of its time. Older materials, such as cladding and windows, have also partly survived. The extensions carried out in the 1940s and in recent decades are clearly distinguishable, although the earlier extension was at the time intended to match the original appearance. The building-historical and historical value remains significant. Property viewing sessions will be held on Monday 17 August from 15:00 to 17:00 and on Friday 21 August from 09:00 to 11:00.

The buyer is responsible for transfer tax and any other possible costs related to the sale.

The final sale decision is made by the City of Rauma Executive Board. The sale will only take place if the highest bid is approved at the Executive Board meeting.
