The car has just had an extensive engine overhaul. As part of the work, the following were renewed, among others:

• timing chains and tensioners

• piston rings

• valve stem seals

• head gaskets

• intake and exhaust manifold gaskets

• valve cover and oil pan gaskets

• coolant hose seals

• five hydraulic lifters; remaining lifters inspected and cleaned

• spark plugs

• breather valve

• air filter

• cabin fresh-air filters

• engine oil and oil filter

• coolant

• battery

• right front lower control arm

Additionally, the overhaul included:

• cylinder head resurfacing

• valve lapping

• cleaning of pistons, valves and ports from carbon deposits

The car runs straight as a train and the steering wheel is perfectly centred.

The transmission fluids were changed by flushing last autumn. At the same time the brake fluid, fuel filter and differential oil were also replaced.

The previous owner is estimated to have carried out at least the following repairs in the last 1–2 years:

• fuel pump

• steering rack

• drive shafts

• brake discs and pads on all four corners

• several control arms

About the engine overhaul

The engine overhaul was carried out carefully by myself, and there is extensive photo and video documentation of the work. I am an automotive engineering student and work as a mechanic.

After the overhaul the car has been test-driven for approx. 200–300 km. The engine runs normally, power is retained and the gearbox shifts cleanly. The car was mechanically sound before the overhaul too, but it did consume oil.

MOT and equipment

The car has just passed its MOT. The inspection produced only one advisory note for a fog light, which has already been fixed.

The interior is tidy for its age, although there are some broken plastic parts. Equipment includes, among other things:

• working sunroof

• cruise control

• electrically adjustable leather sports seats

• automatic dual-zone climate control

The seats are intact and still firm. The air conditioning blows cold.

Exterior condition

This is not the prettiest flower in the meadow, and you shouldn't come expecting a flawless paint finish. Like many Tinder dates, it looks better in photos than in real life.

The exterior is in typical used condition for its age and mileage:

• clearcoat has peeled in several places

• paint is blistering on the rear wheel arches

• bumpers show various signs of use

However, an aluminium body does not rust through in the same way as a standard steel body.

The appearance has an honest Mad Max vibe: a bit scruffy, lots of character and a big V8 at the front. This car is not bought as a showpiece but to be driven, enjoyed and, if desired, further worked on.

This is a thoroughly gone-through, recently MOT'd and roadworthy V8 Audi that still needs some work but has plenty of potential. Suitable for a buyer who values S8 technology, performance and character and is not put off by small projects on an older car.
