For sale: a proper workhorse of the seas and a party boat in one package: Scorpion RIB, year 2002, 9.70 m long (just over 32 ft). There are seats for twelve, so you can fit a good crowd — even the neighbour’s Irmas, with room left for their picnic baskets. The boat runs in all conditions; swell is mostly entertainment for it.

At the stern purrs two Honda BF225s — a total of 450 horsepower of Japanese reliability. According to word of mouth they have been serviced, and by that same reliable oral tradition they’ve not been run since the service. So the service is still fresh.

Some arithmetic: a new engine like this now costs just over €24,000 each, and even used ones fetch well into the tens of thousands for a pair. So the engines alone are already worth tens of thousands of euros — the hull, pontoons and a week’s weather practically come with the deal. And if that wasn’t enough: the sale includes a THIRD BF engine for spares, to be collected on a trip via Kuopio. Three engines for the price of one — auctions that hand out horsepower this generously are rare. The spare contains parts as far as a socket wrench will reach.

And now the honest bit that this listing is for: the boat has been ashore for a few years and one pontoon now leaks. Don’t panic: the air holds for about a week. The boat thus gently reminds you it should be taken out at least once a week — few boats care for their owner this much. A DIY-er attacked the leak with silicone, with the result you all expected. Proper repair instructions are included: using the right materials the repair is straightforward. Using the wrong ones just gives you silicone.

Contrary to the photos, the chartplotter has since changed hands. There is therefore a free space on the dash for your dream navigator — consider it a customisation opportunity.

And an important clarification: the trailer shown in the pictures is NOT included in the sale, so collection must be arranged using your own muscle. HOWEVER — if you happen to have some cash about, the trailer may be thrown in. The trailer is home-made and aluminium, so even if nothing else, it’s an aluminium investment. Few quoted stocks follow you down the road and carry a boat too.
