Nissan Maxima, 2004, Siilinjärvi

Very reliable 3.0-litre Nissan Maxima with the VQ30 engine and automatic transmission. The mechanics are practically indestructible. At 50–80 km/h the engine can manage as low as 7.7 L/100 km with around 200 hp. Calm city driving and motorway stretches at 110 km/h give a true average consumption of 8–9 L/100 km. You can easily reach 10 L/100 km if you want.

Technical:

- The engine is very robust 2000s-era engineering. Almost any OBD2 reader can read it; no special software is needed for servicing and you can maintain it yourself. The car has a very simple central computer and engine management. You can disconnect the battery and, when reconnecting, simply set the clock on the centre console. Done. No other “initialisations” or “adjustments” are required. The car does not constantly show “fault” warnings, “important safety notices and chimes”, or other warning lights. The only chime sounds if you open the driver’s door while the engine is off and the lights are on. In a cottage yard you can reverse and drive without the seatbelt; nothing will beep at you.

Body:

- The body has been in constant use for 22 years. There is some wear and early rust. One small patch was welded for the 2025 inspection; this year no welding was needed. I don’t know exactly where the weld was and can’t find it. It should last a few years as is. In the long run underbody work is recommended — it will considerably extend the car’s life.

Wheels:

- Summer and winter tyres on alloy wheels; summer tyres have 4 mm tread, winter tyres have been driven ~1,000 km. The alloys show wear.

Service book:

- Service and repair receipts for the last 2 years total €1,100, including one underbody weld, radiator replacement, lower ball joints, and air-conditioning recharge. The car comes with a service book filled from new. Service parts are easy to obtain and not expensive — standard Nissan parts. No modifications have been made to the car except for a new radio.

- The car has mainly been used for long trips and commuting: journeys from Kuopio to Uusimaa, Northern Ostrobothnia, and cottage trips to Kuhmo.

- Fuel consumption is very moderate: at 90–100 km/h it is 7.7–8.0 L/100 km.

This car is best driven at moderate speeds and in urban areas. Watch the speedometer when cruise control is not used — it does not hold speed perfectly and you may pass 100 km/h without noticing.

The main reason for sale is low use, about 3,000 km between inspections.
