A torque wrench is a precise measuring tool for setting torque. It is designed to tighten threaded fastenings so that the joint force is known and matched to the strength of the materials, bolts and nuts used. The torque wrench is particularly suited to vehicle work and other situations where the manufacturer specifies the required tightening torque.

The wrench works with a mechanical click mechanism that gives an audible "click" when the set torque is reached. The torque scale is on the handle and the setting is made by turning the handle. Once the desired torque is set, the wrench is locked with the safety catch at the end of the handle.
