Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Camper Project, 2016, Espoo

Here's an almost-finished campervan project, and of course it can be driven on a category B driving licence.

Best of all, it is registered as a van, so the tax is almost half of a comparable motorhome!

The previous owner has already completed the most laborious and time-consuming work: insulation and surface finishes for the ceiling, walls and floor. The overhead cupboards, base cabinets and bed frames require only minor finishing. The floor is insulated under the laminate. The wiring for the roof fan, auxiliary heater and leisure battery is missing.

Sleeping places: 2 in a fold-up upper bed and 2–3 in the lower beds, depending on whether the separate lower beds are joined with a board. Mattresses are missing from the lower beds, but the upper bed already has a mattress.

Two solar panels have been fitted to the living area roof and their controller has been placed under the bed, where there is plenty of space for a battery. Electric roof vent fan.

There is also an opening ventilation window on the right-hand side.

The passenger-seat area has an auxiliary heater fitted under the seat, but it is not wired up.

At this stage of the build you can still easily tailor the interior to your preferred layout.

The chassis has been improved, e.g. quality Koni shock absorbers at each corner and a rear air suspension fitted by Vallila Takomo, which can be conveniently adjusted from the cab so the vehicle can be levelled on sloping sites.

The engine is a genuine Mercedes 97 kW (130 hp) unit and runs very well. The bodywork is in good condition.

The cab headlining has been replaced with a dark one and a Garmin sat-nav has been added.

Cruise control and air conditioning are also fitted.

Passed inspection in May!
