Time for this neat — not flashy — Golf to go to its next owner. It has served me excellently for 11 years, but with a child and a dog we needed a larger estate so this can move on to someone who needs a reliable everyday car. It could give its new owner another 11 years of service.

Passed inspection last week. No clunks or rattles, very good to drive and sound overall. Of course, 25 years bring signs of use and small impacts. So it is not suitable for a show‑car seeker, but an excellent and affordable find for someone looking for a good everyday car. If all Golfs of this age are this good, the Golf is an excellent car — or this may be an especially good example. I see this as above average for its age, without taking away from the Golf’s merits.

The car has never been welded and there was no need for it at the inspection. The paint has small chips and early surface rust. These should be cleaned and touched in; I haven’t had time to arrange that.

The radio has been replaced with a newer unit and it has both USB and Bluetooth. Additional driving lights have also been fitted.

I once fitted new EU plates to make it look fresher at the time. The old number shown on the document is not a typical two‑plate reclaim case — the car hasn’t been in an accident and that is merely down to the owner’s past showing‑off, wanting the lovely Golf to look even newer ;)

The car stood over winter; the battery was charged and it has now been put back into use, inspected and test‑driven for 200–300 km without any problems. It still feels like a very reliable everyday car. It would have continued in my own use if not for these family developments. I don’t need a second car now, so I’m happy to sell this one.

A few hairs from the family’s particularly well‑behaved husky may still be found by a sharp‑eyed buyer, even though the car has been vacuumed thoroughly.
