Citroën Xsara, 2004, Lohja

Hi — I’m no longer able to drive normally and would need special seats and cruise control. I have a spreading disability (CRPS nerve condition), and a cervical spine finding from three weeks ago recommends driving with a neck brace, which is difficult.

Perky and pleasant to drive, and uses VERY little oil. I drove it yesterday to check it for listing — on the Turku motorway it accelerated briskly from 100 to 180 km/h before I eased off.

I find fuel consumption low; I’ve used it only sparingly this year (short trips to church, pharmacy and shop) — roughly once a week on average.

About faults: the spare key works but is worn and can sometimes immobilise the car while driving — the ring/connection seems poor.

Before the MOT I would (if I could): replace the left front headlight and repair the driver’s window wiring — the connector is loose or has a poor contact. I can’t reach these or the rear silencer that needs replacing; the part was about €40–50 from Motonet. My son made a temporary fix that holds but would not pass inspection.

No warning lights. Big front-end work at a workshop just under two years ago — front axle, wishbones and tie rods, and 4-wheel alignment was done when the axle was renewed; brakes were also done then. Still a good, practical car and economical to run; the engine is lively.

Wheels/tyres: alloy wheels with almost-new steel wheels fitted with good Hankook winter tyres, plus a summer tyre set without rims.

When I bought it the single key had no battery; I didn’t replace it as I manage with manual locking. The door locks behave a bit erratically but do lock and unlock, so it was fine for me. I don’t know if it’s a fuse — the key worked without a battery for me; the lock should click when operated manually.

I would have a spare key made because the existing one is certainly worn.
