Ready to use straight away, the freezing toilet needs no water supply, sewer or built ventilation. Just plug it into a mains socket. Designed for portability and plug & play installation, it is an ideal choice for summer cottages and any space without drainage. The oval 21‑litre inner container fits a biodegradable bag so you can remove the bag hygienically for composting.

Ekohytte Frost has been engineered with energy efficiency in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make it extremely energy‑sparing. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 hours — about half that of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and tall adjustable legs mean the freezing toilet should be installed in a heated space.

Before use

• After removing the product from its packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you find any.

• Leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have moved into the refrigerant circuit during transport will then return to the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The toilet seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non‑compostable in it, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed in a warm indoor space. It can be used on a floor with underfloor heating because of its thick base insulation and tall feet. Heat will increase power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10–+22 °C, maximum +30 °C. The toilet must be placed horizontally and secured using its feet.

Use

• Press the bio‑bag base into the container and turn the bag top over the container rim so the container can be dropped into the seat.

• Ensure the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the wall socket and switch the toilet on; the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two‑thirds full, the bio‑bag should be changed.

• Fold the top edges of the bio‑bag into the container and lift the container clear of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden composter, having added plenty of bulking material before emptying.

• Break the bag surface, e.g. with a garden fork, and cover with a layer of bulking material.

• Check for ice build‑up around the bucket rim. Defrost and dry the walls if necessary.

• Fit a new bag.

Use of bulking material
Bulking materials are not required in a freezing toilet. They are needed only for secondary composting.

Cleaning
Wipe Ekohytte with a damp cloth. Any household cleaning agents may be used. The container can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before refitting. Do not use water on the rear refrigeration chamber. Clean it once a year with a vacuum cleaner.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Disconnect the unit from the mains.

• Empty, clean and dry the container and the cooling compartment.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space.
