Here’s proper old‑school character on offer! Step into this Ascona and it feels like finding a time machine. A trip to the ’90s—or even the ’80s—starts here. This car has an extraordinary history: it has covered only just over 20 km in this millennium and in the euro era. The car slept like Sleeping Beauty from 1999 and, when it arrived with us, the tank still contained fuel from the markka era. So take it easy when getting used to 21st‑century traffic and fuel prices, not to mention the currency change. The previous owner had it for over 30 years but had to give up the hobby due to health reasons.

The car’s exterior and interior are a real trip back in time. Inside there are classic Recaro seats, an SR instrument cluster, a rally steering wheel and externally a diesel bonnet, festival wheels, an extra light bar with marker lights, plus a rare front valance and an Irmscher rear spoiler. It’s also fitted with all kinds of period hitech items including interior and exterior thermometers, a navigator’s lamp, an interior light delay relay, reverse and rear fog lights, a reverse buzzer, various power outlets, a boot interior light, an Autoton radio with four speakers, rear window curtains, red interior floor lights, an alarm—and more. There are at least as many buttons and lights as on Apollo 13. How many still run the legendary Ekoturbo tyres? This one does—though I recommend replacing them due to age. For some reason the radio is inaudible, so it would probably need a fourth antenna.

The car was re‑registered without remarks back onto the road on 24 April 2026 with its original plates (also security‑marked on the windows). The registration is therefore valid until April 2028. The Ascona was removed from the register in 1999, but a return‑to‑road restoration had been started and was left unfinished by the previous owner. Structurally the car is excellent and it doesn’t even suffer from the usual spare‑wheel well corrosion. We have changed the engine oil and oil filter here, and the brake master cylinder and rear brake pipes were replaced and the brake fluid renewed. The tank was emptied and fuel hoses and the fuel filter were renewed. An engine overhaul has probably been done at some point: it doesn’t smoke and the emissions values immediately came close to those of a car with a catalytic converter (CO 0.17% and HC 140). The engine is also very lively despite being just 1.2 litres. The bodywork has a fashionable patina. The lower edges of the doors are poor and the bonnet has the usual rust damage. Drives firmly and quietly. A fine, head‑turning classic project—so why not place a bid?
