This is the kind of car I wanted as a young man, but back then I had to settle for an ordinary second Golf. I finally bought this one for my own pleasure at the start of the pandemic in 2020. It always puts a smile on my face when I drive it.


This is a pretty good example. Mechanically and paintwork-wise very good for its age. The underbody and chassis are also in good condition. The seats have been repaired with the original upholstery fabric (the sport seats on these are always worn). I have tried to list defects honestly as you should in an online sale.


The car missed its MOT last autumn because I decided to move the inspection to spring, as I don't drive it in winter. It has been stored by me during the winters. Test drive possible with trade plates if needed.

During my ownership at least the timing components and the exhaust, and other small parts such as the driver's door hinges and lock, have been replaced.


The reverse light works (on many of these it is broken, which prevents four-wheel drive from engaging in reverse).


The car is fitted only with studless winter tyres.


With a little tuning it could probably qualify for museum registration (at least restore the headlights to original, remove or make the extra lights period-correct, fit original wheels and clean the floor mat).

Defects and other observations

The CV joint clunks at full lock under load.

I have ordered new CV joints but haven't had reason to fit them. The new joints come with the car.


The speedometer reads slightly low (actual speed is a little higher than indicated).


The clutch release bearing makes a bit of noise when the clutch is fully depressed. The clutch works normally — no judder and it engages normally — so I haven't replaced it.


The digital clock in the instrument cluster does not work.


The front shock absorbers are a bit too firm for my taste on road driving.


The left rear tyre leaks slightly (occasionally needs air). It seems to be leaking between the rim and the tyre.
