Volkswagen Polo, 2013, Hyvinkää

During a short test drive we noted the following: 

- The car runs, but the idle is a little poor as the engine fault light is on.

- Idles

- The car's air conditioning is working

Fault list from the MOT and information:

The vehicle was failed at the MOT for technical reasons, mainly related to engine performance and emissions testing.

❗ The emissions test could not be carried out because the engine would not reach the required revs. Therefore the MOT could not confirm that the vehicle's emissions meet the regulations.

❗ In addition, the engine fault light is on, which means the vehicle's system reports a fault. When the fault light is on, the vehicle is automatically failed at the MOT.

Other observations (not direct reasons for failure)

The MOT also noted a few minor issues that should be fixed at the same time, but they did not alone cause the failure:

• Rear registration plate lights do not work

• The left front headlight beam is weak
  
  What next?
  

  When:

  • the engine performance is repaired,

  • the cause of the fault light is diagnosed and fixed,

  • and emissions can be measured normally,

  the vehicle can be accepted at a re-inspection as usual.

The vehicle was failed at the MOT mainly due to issues related to emissions and engine performance:

• Smoke/emissions measurement could not be completed

• The OBD system reports a fault (engine warning light)

Additionally, there are lighting-related repair recommendations that should be fixed, but they did not alone cause the failure.
