Solid oak plank table top

High-quality, solid oak plank table top consists of two "planks" made from 3.6 cm thick glued board. We aim to select planks with tones as close as possible to each other, but as is typical for natural wood, colour differences may occur between pieces.

Each top is wonderfully unique and no two are exactly the same, as the wood tone and grain vary depending on the tree's growing conditions.

The surface is lacquered, so it does not require regular maintenance like an oiled surface. The lacquer is applied three times with a water-based, matt indoor lacquer.

The top has a slightly brushed surface that emphasises oak's natural character, beautifully highlighting the wood texture. Knots are a natural part of solid wood. Knots may have narrow cracks that can be filled. The surface is not completely smooth; oak has a slightly coarse texture noticeable to the touch. Because of this coarseness, there may be small variations in sheen on the lacquered surface.

• Care/washing instructions: For cleaning wooden parts we recommend using a slightly damp soft cloth. If liquid is spilled, always wipe it away before it dries. If necessary, dirty surfaces may be cleaned using a mild detergent or soap. Rinse and dry the cleaned area afterwards. Do not use strong or abrasive cleaners. Avoid placing corrosive substances or hot pans and similar items directly on the bare table surface.

• Material, additional info: Oak is very hard and durable, and therefore dense. This causes the wood to move noticeably with changes in humidity. In heated indoor air in winter the wood dries and shrinks, and in summer it absorbs moisture and swells. This variation can be as much as 7–9 mm in a one-metre-wide top. The top may slightly warp in winter but will correct in summer and vice versa. This is a natural characteristic of wood and cannot be completely eliminated. Small hairline cracks caused by wood movement are also typical of oak and do not weaken the top or affect its service life or durability. Wood also reacts to light within weeks or months and its tone will change compared with a new surface. This is a natural property of wood and not a defect. Objects left on the top can also leave marks where the rest of the top gets more light.
