An AMG take on the compact sedan from the golden years of motoring. The big naturally aspirated engine's instant throttle response, soundtrack and rawness still impress almost 20 years on. At the same time it can be driven, if desired, like any other small Mercedes.


Condition

Well maintained and winter driving has been kept to an absolute minimum.


Interior shows wear in normal places, mainly on the steering wheel leather and the driver's seat.


Exterior shows normal wear; stone chips on the front and windscreen, some hairline scratches on surfaces and a couple of parking dents. Unpainted plastic and rubber parts are beginning to show their age and there is lacquer failure on the roof trims. Front bumper and right front wing were replaced in 2024 after a minor incident at Veho, at the insurer's expense.


Technically everything is in order and power is intact. The camshaft sprockets click for a split second on start-up, then remain silent. No effect on engine operation observed. Drivetrain runs without extraneous noises and the chassis is firm.


The wheel alignment was not done last spring after suspension tinkering, so the steering wheel is slightly off-centre. The brakes are approaching replacement — there is some judder under braking.
