Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per day — about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet mean the freezing toilet must be installed in a heated interior.

Before use

• After removing the product from its packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you notice damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have moved into the cooling circuit during transport will then return to the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The toilet is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that does not compost there, e.g. rubbish, pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be installed in a warm interior. It may be used on a floor with underfloor heating because of the thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. The toilet must be installed level and secured using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the base of the biodegradable bag into the bucket and fold the bag rim over the top of the bucket so the bucket can be dropped into the toilet.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug the unit into the mains and switch it on; the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• Change the bag when the bucket is roughly two‑thirds full.

• Fold the top edge of the bag into the bucket and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin to which you have added plenty of dry carbon material before emptying.

• Tear the bag surface (for example with a garden fork) and cover with a layer of dry material.

• Check for any ice build‑up around the bucket well. Defrost and dry the walls if necessary.

• Place a new bag in position.

Use of dry material
You do not need to use dry material in the freezing toilet. Dry material is required only for post‑composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use common household cleaners. You can remove and wash the bucket with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water on the rear cooling well. Clean the rear wall by vacuuming once a year.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Unplug the unit.

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and the cooling well.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space.
