The Ekohytte Frost freezing toilet sets a new standard in the dry toilet segment. Unrivalled value for money, elegant design and — above all — outstanding energy efficiency make it one of the most desirable dry toilets on the market.

For a cottage or any off‑grid location
Ready to use, the freezing toilet needs no water connection, sewer or built ventilation. Simply plug it into a mains socket. Portability and plug & play installation make it an ideal choice for summer cottages and any off‑grid space. The oval 21‑litre inner bucket fits inside the seat; use a biodegradable bag and remove the bag hygienically to compost.

Outstanding energy efficiency
The Ekohytte Frost has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make the unit extremely frugal. Ekohytte Frost consumes just 0.36 kWh per 24 hours — only about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and tall adjustable feet allow installation in heated indoor spaces; the freezing toilet must be placed in a heated room.

Luxury for the cottage environment
In addition to minimal power consumption, Ekohytte Frost stands out with a clean, minimalist design. Comfort features include a heated seat ring and a soft‑close lid. The unit is well sealed and well insulated, runs only when needed and is very quiet in operation.

Before first use

• After removing the product from its packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you find damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have entered the system during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet sits firmly and level.

• The toilet seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that will not compost there, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed in a warm indoor space. It can be used on underfloor heating because of the thick base insulation and tall feet. Heat increases the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Ensure the toilet is level and secure it with the adjustable feet.

Use

• Push the biodegradable bag to the bottom of the inner bucket and fold its top edge over the rim so the bucket can be lowered into the seat

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly

• Plug into the mains and switch the toilet on; the green indicator light will illuminate

• Wait about one hour before first use

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two‑thirds full, the biodegradable bag should be replaced

• Fold the bag's top edge into the bucket and lift the bucket out of the seat

• Compost the waste in a household or garden composter, adding plenty of carbon material (bedding) before emptying

• Pierce the bag surface (e.g. with a fork) and cover with a layer of bedding

• Check for any ice buildup around the bucket well. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Place a new bag in position

Use of drying agents
Drying agents are not required in a freezing toilet. They should only be added during post‑composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use standard household cleaning products. The inner bucket can be removed and washed with water — dry it before replacing. Do not use water on the rear wall. Clean the rear wall once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and freezing well

• Leave the lid open

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space
