Toyota Hiace 2.5 D-4D 117 Long 4WD. *Just inspected*, 2007, Lappeenranta

Hello everyone.

Now it has arrived for bidding: the mother and grandfather of all auction lots, a genuine original 4WD Hiace.

The van hardly needs much introduction — it’s likely familiar to most. It’s already built a bit of a legendary reputation.

Cosmetically the van is intact — there are no dents or big dings, and it has never been driven into a ditch.

Some corrosion is visible as you would expect; that comes with the territory. Some paintwork has already been done, but it could use a bit more attention if you want it to look pretty. That “pretty” bit is probably unnecessary for an honest work tool like this.

It drives excellently and everything seems to work, even the seat heater works though the driver’s seat is worn. The rear window wipers also work — those are often broken in these.

According to the previous owner, the air conditioning also works.

I tested the four-wheel drive myself and it definitely engages both forwards and backwards.

Service history is available and everything known is shown in the pictures. It has been serviced and clearly maintained. The timing belt, the most important item, has just been replaced.

This hasn’t been passed between owners. It was originally with a construction company in Kouvola until 2023 and then the construction company owner’s nephew used it for a couple of years, so the vehicle has essentially been in the same family its whole life.

The odometer now shows 399,000 km — only half of its expected life used. :)

The studded tyres are almost new, and the summer tyres have had their studs pulled out — a perfectly legal and usable solution for this vehicle.

Many of these old vans often smell of tar from years of smoking, but this one has not had any smoking nor animals. It’s therefore quite clean and fresh to breathe in. The interior is otherwise clean and tidy, you won’t even need to fetch a vacuum cleaner.

The inspection was done in January and the next MOT won’t be due until November next year.

There are plenty of photos and a couple of videos I recorded. They should show the van’s condition clearly, and of course you are more than welcome to come and inspect and test-drive the vehicle at Lappeenrannan Auto-Kilta. It’s parked outside so you can have a look in the evening too.
