For a cabin or any location without drains
Ready to use straight away, the freezing toilet needs no water connection, sewer or extra ventilation. Just plug it into a socket. Designed for portability and plug & play installation, it is an optimal choice for summer cottages and other drain-free locations. An oval 21-litre inner container fits a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

Outstanding energy efficiency
Ekohytte Frost has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make the unit extremely energy efficient. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 h — about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and tall adjustable feet allow use in heated spaces; the freezing toilet must be installed in a heated room.

Before use

• After unpacking, check the product for damage. Contact the seller if you notice any damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have entered the refrigerant circuit during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The toilet is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non‑compostable in it, e.g. rubbish, pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a heated room. It can be used on underfloor‑heated floors thanks to the thick base insulation and tall feet. Heat increases the unit’s power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to radiators or other heat sources. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. The toilet must be placed level and secured using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the bio-bag into the base of the inner container and fold its edges over the container so the container can be lowered into the seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the wall and switch the unit on; the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• Change the bio-bag when the bucket is roughly two-thirds full.

• Fold the top edges of the bio-bag into the container and lift the container out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden composter that has plenty of carbon material added before emptying.

• Pierce the surface of the bag (for example with a garden fork) and cover with a layer of carbon material.

• Check whether ice has formed on the edges of the cold chamber under the bucket. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Fit a new bag.

Use of carbon material
No carbon material is required inside the freezing toilet. Carbon material is only needed for subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use household cleaning agents. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before refitting. Do not use water to clean the rear cold chamber wall. Clean it once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods out of use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and the cold chamber

• Leave the lid open

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space
