10 kW diesel parking heater for engine coolant, Vantaa

Operating principle:

The heater's main engine drives the fuel pump, the combustion-supporting air fan and the nozzle. The fuel pump sends the drawn fuel through the fuel pipe to the nozzle. The nozzle mixes the fuel with the air drawn by the combustion fan and atomises it in the main combustion chamber under centrifugal force. A hot glow plug ignites the mixture, it burns completely and then returns to the afterburner. Heat is transferred from the inner wall of the water jacket and the upper cooling fin to the medium in the water jacket layer – the coolant. After heating, the medium circulates through the piping by the circulation pump (or by convection) to provide heating. The flue gases produced by combustion are expelled through the exhaust pipe.

⚠️ Diesel heater Safety instructions

The diesel heater's combustion process consumes oxygen and produces hazardous exhaust gases. Incorrect installation can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.

1. Exhaust routing (Most important rule)

• Exhaust outside only: Exhaust gases must be routed entirely outside the building, tent or vehicle using a metal exhaust pipe.

• Sealing: Ensure the exhaust connection to the heater housing is sealed with the supplied clamp. Even a small leak into the interior can be fatal.

• CO alarm: Always install a quality carbon monoxide alarm (CO alarm). It is cheap life insurance.

  
  

2. Exhaust temperature and insulation

The exhaust pipe becomes extremely hot in use.

• Max temperature: Diesel heater exhaust gases can reach up to 250–450 °C at the outlet depending on power. The metal pipe itself may glow hot.

• Feed-through: If the exhaust pipe passes through a wall or floor, use a non-combustible insulation (e.g. mineral wool) or a separate metal feed-through sleeve. The pipe must not contact wood, plastic or other combustible materials directly.

• Clearance: Keep the exhaust pipe at least 10 cm away from all meltable or flammable materials along its length.

  
  

3. Combustion air and heated air

• Separate air intakes: Ensure the heater's exhaust pipe is not near the unit's combustion air intake or the intake for the heated interior air. Otherwise the unit may draw its own exhaust back in.

  
  

4. Fuel handling

• Position the fuel tank so that in the event of a leak diesel cannot flow onto a hot exhaust pipe.
