Boric acid powder is used in forest fertilisation to correct boron deficiency. In Finland boron deficiency is common especially on drier mineral soils and peatlands, and is visible particularly in spruce as top dieback and growth disorders.


Recommended boron rate for forests:

👉 1–2 kg boron / hectare

Since boric acid (H₃BO₃) contains about 17 % boron, the required amounts are:

- 1 kg B/ha → 6 kg/ha (small deficiency)

- 2 kg B/ha → 12 kg/ha (large deficiency)

Common and safe practice:

Rapeseed / canola 1.0–1.5 kg/ha B, powder 9 kg/ha

Potato 0.5–1.0 kg/ha B, powder 7 kg/ha

Grasslands 0.5–1.0 kg/ha B, powder 7 kg/ha

Cereals 0.3–0.8 kg/ha B, powder 5 kg/ha

Brassicas 1.0 kg/ha B, powder 7 kg/ha


Can be used as is or mixed, e.g. with ash.

Fully water-soluble — can also be added to slurry tanks and mixed.

In greenhouse production apply with the irrigation water.
