First came the car, then the Merc, then Häkkinen's world championship and then this jet-black prime example: an S-class Merc.

The Merc, as Mercedes-Benz vehicles are often called at the back table of the service station, has been a trusted commuter car in recent years.

It should be noted that without proper active maintenance problems would certainly have appeared. The CarVertical report gives a score of 59 due to "how the car has been used, an older car that may show wear", somewhat understandable since there is no electronic service book and the model year places it on some readers' "historic car list". CarVertical also found no issues in any area. A comprehensive service book is in the glovebox.

It is worth mentioning that larger components have been serviced over time. The main recurring fault was the balance shaft. Mese Aki removed the engine about 37,000 km ago and fixed the issue.
Oil changes have been done actively.
A few ignition coils have been replaced over time. The electric handbrake was refurbished two years ago following a remark at the MOT.

With a modest 330,000 km the Merc still provides a very pleasant ride for gentlemen and ladies — the air suspension is responsible for that. Relaxed in the leather seat heading towards the future, you can open the electric sunroof and, for example, wave a chosen finger or hand at admiring onlookers. There's no need to slam the doors — the soft-close doors work. The car passed inspection in July 2025.

Known faults and defects listed below:
The centre console lid does not lock properly and pops up.
A few rust spots on the wheel arch and some small scratches on the side tell of a well-lived life. A slightly larger scratch on the passenger-side sill was present when the car was bought. The interior light cover on the inside of the tailgate is mysteriously missing. At 240 km/h the car starts to cough — the dealer at the desk said it was the limiter.
Only one remote key is available, with a Webasto remote attached. Unfortunately the Webasto battery has long since given up and the heater has not been used while the car has been with us, so the auxiliary heater should be considered in need of servicing.

The car currently wears acceptable winter wheels and comes with fairly good-condition summer wheels on their own rims.

This car cannot be called frugal, but the vehicle's size compensates for that. It is possible to average under 10 L/100 km, but an average fuel consumption of 10 L/100 km is a fair estimate and includes city driving and motorway use.

For those who appreciate these S-model Mercs that run on 98 RON, this is a find. As to why this trusted steed is at auction: the owner's WhatsApp friends list is full and they now have a diesel Merc (without AdBlue).

The car spent a few weeks resting outside over the Christmas holidays and during that time the airbags did not deflate and, when attempting to get in, the keys hadn't even fully reached the ignition before the V6 happily purred to life.

This will give someone joy for a long time if they know how to value an S-class. However, it is important to note that this S Merc is not a new car and is not being sold as one. Components requiring attention may appear in the future even if they are not currently known, given the car's history. The car is sold as described. The car waits outside impatiently for its new owner during the sales period.
