A torque wrench is a precision instrument for setting tightening torque. It is designed to tighten threaded joints so that the joint’s force is precisely known and matched to the strength of the material and the bolt and nut. The torque wrench is especially suited to vehicle work and other situations where the manufacturer specifies the required tightening torque.

The wrench uses a mechanical click mechanism that gives an audible “click” when the set torque is reached. The torque scale is on the handle and is adjusted by turning the handle. Once the desired torque is set, the wrench is locked with the safety at the end of the handle.
