Ready to use, the freezing toilet needs no water connection, sewer or extra ventilation. It is enough to plug it into a socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it an ideal choice for summer cottages and any space without drainage. The oval 21-litre inner bucket fits a biodegradable bag which can be removed hygienically for composting.

Outstanding energy efficiency
The Ekohytte Frost freezing toilet has been designed with energy efficiency in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make it extremely economical. The Ekohytte Frost uses only 0.36 kWh per 24 h — about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet mean the freezing toilet should be installed in a heated space.

Before first use

• After removing the product from its packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you notice any damage.

• Keep the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have flowed into the cold unit during transport will then return to the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet sits firmly and level.

• The toilet seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that will not compost in it, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed in a warm indoor space. It can be used on underfloor heated floors thanks to its thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases the unit's electricity consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. The optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. The toilet must be placed level and secured using its adjustable feet.

Use

• Place the base of the bio bag into the bucket and turn the bag edges over the top so the bucket can be lowered into the seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close correctly.

• Plug into the socket and switch the toilet on; the green indicator light will come on.

• Wait about one hour before use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two-thirds full, the bio bag should be changed.

• Turn the top edges of the bio bag into the bucket and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin after adding ample bulking material before emptying.

• Break the bag surface, e.g. with a fork, and cover with a layer of bulking material.

• Check whether ice has accumulated around the lower rim of the bucket. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Fit a new bag in place.

Use of bulking material
No bulking material is required in a freezing toilet. Bulking material should only be added during secondary composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use standard household cleaning agents. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water on the back panel. Clean it once a year by vacuuming.
