Relatively tidy for its age and for a C‑class Mercedes. A few rust spots and worn joints — with some repairs the car could last many more years.

Pros:

+ M111 engine and, for a 25‑year‑old gearbox, the 5G‑Tronic box is surprisingly smooth and responsive

+ Overall tidy inside and out

+ Newly fitted alternator and belt, and a new battery

+ Left rear wheel bearing replaced; others opened and greased about 5,000 km ago

+ Underside in good condition for its age/class Mercedes. A few rust spots as shown in the defects list

+ Mechanicals work well — no rattling or play

+ Gears change smoothly

+ Previous owners soundproofed the car, so driving noise is very tolerable

+ Reasonable mileage and tidy interior apart from slight wear and dark marks on the driver’s seat

+ Two sets of wheels/tyres. Summer wheels and tyres in good condition; winter tyres on decent rims in acceptable condition

Cons:

- Rust on the doors and arches as is common on these; a handy person can still tackle it. The front jack points need attention and there’s a small spot in front of the tank. According to the inspector the arches would still pass this inspection, but it’s worth doing at the same time

- Slight coolant loss; water pump hose is cracked or loose — hasn’t bothered me personally

- One rear spring broken; when repairing the arches it’s probably wise to replace the other spring too

- Small dents and scratches on the bumpers and a small touch‑up above the rear light

- Right rear light is out — I’ll replace it if I get the chance

Oil changed 3,000 km ago and gearbox oil changed just over 10,000 km before it came to me.

The car is not new nor sold as new, but in relatively good condition for its age and pleasant to drive.

Has been standing unused in a dry garage since early October after the alternator failed and a new car arrived.
