Ready to use, the freezing toilet needs no water connection, sewer or special ventilation — just a mains socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it ideal for summer cottages and any drain-free location. The oval 21‑litre inner container takes a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

Ekohytte Frost has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make it extremely energy-efficient. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh/day — roughly half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and tall adjustable feet make the unit suitable for heated rooms; please ensure the freezing toilet is installed in a heated indoor space.

Before use

• When you remove the product from its packaging, check for damage. Contact the seller if you find any damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have entered the circuit during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The device has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet sits firmly and level.

• The toilet is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non-compostable in it, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed in a warm indoor space. It can be used on underfloor-heated floors because of the thick base insulation and tall feet. Heat will increase the unit’s electricity consumption, so we do not recommend placing it next to radiators or other heat sources. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Place the toilet level and secure it using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the bottom of the bio-bag into the inner container and fold the bag's edges over the container so it can be lowered into the seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the socket and switch the toilet on — the green indicator light will come on.

• Wait about one hour before use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two-thirds full, replace the bio-bag.

• Tuck the top edges of the bio-bag into the container and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the contents in a domestic or garden composter — add plenty of bulking material before emptying.

• Pierce the bag surface, e.g. with a garden fork, and cover with a layer of bulking material.

• Check for ice build-up around the rim of the bucket basin. Defrost and dry the walls if necessary.

• Fit a new bag.

Use of bulking material
No bulking material is needed in the freezing toilet itself. Bulking material should only be added during subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Clean Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use any household cleaning products. The inner container can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before refitting. Do not use water to clean the rear refrigerated compartment — vacuum it once a year.

Longer periods of non-use

• Unplug the unit.

• Empty, clean and dry the inner container and the refrigerated compartment.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space.
