The Ekohytte Frost freezing toilet has been designed with particular focus on energy economy. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make it extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 h — about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet allow use on heated floors. The freezing toilet must be installed in a heated room.

Before use

• When you remove the product from the packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you notice damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have entered the pipe during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Set them before use so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The toilet seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that does not compost, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a warm room. It can be used on underfloor heated surfaces thanks to the thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10°C to +22°C, maximum +30°C. The toilet should be positioned level and secured using its feet.

Use

• Push the bio‑bag into the bottom of the container and fold the bag edges over the container so it can be lowered into the seat.

• Make sure the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the socket and switch the unit on; the green indicator light will come on.

• Wait about one hour before use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two‑thirds full, the bio‑bag should be changed.

• Fold the top of the bio‑bag inward and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden composter to which you have added plenty of bulking material before emptying.

• Pierce the bag surface, e.g. with a garden fork, and cover with a layer of bulking material.

• Check whether ice has formed on the rim of the cold well under the bucket. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Replace with a new bag.

Use of bulking material
Bulking material is not required inside the freezing toilet. It should be added only during post‑composting.

Cleaning
Clean Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use common household cleaners. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water on the rear wall. Clean the rear wall once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and cold well

• Leave the lid open

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space
