The Ekohytte Frost has been designed with particular emphasis on energy economy. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make it extremely energy-efficient. Ekohytte Frost uses only 0.36 kWh per 24 hours — roughly half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and tall adjustable feet allow installation on underfloor-heated surfaces; the freezing toilet must be installed in a heated space.

Before first use

• After unpacking, check the appliance for any damage. Contact the seller if you notice any damage.

• Leave the unit standing upright for at least half an hour. Any oil displaced into the cooling circuit during transport will then return to the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Set them before use so the toilet sits firmly and level.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that does not compost there, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ashes or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed in a warm interior space. It can be used on underfloor-heated floors thanks to the thick base insulation and tall feet. Heat increases power consumption, so do not place it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10–+22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Place the toilet level and secure it using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the bottom of the bio-bag to the base of the container and fold its edges over the rim so the container can be dropped into the toilet seat.

• Ensure the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug the unit into the wall and switch it on; the green indicator light will illuminate.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two-thirds full, change the bio-bag.

• Tuck the top edge of the bio-bag into the container and lift the container out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin to which you have added plenty of bulking material before emptying.

• Break the bag surface, e.g. with a fork, and cover with a layer of bulking material.

• Check for ice build-up on the edges of the cold well. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Fit a new bag in place.

Use of bulking material
No bulking material is required in a freezing toilet. Bulking material is needed only for subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use standard household cleaning agents. The inner container can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water to clean the rear cooling well; vacuum it once a year.

Longer periods of non-use

• Unplug the unit.

• Empty, clean and dry the container and cooling well.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space.
