Toyota Celica, 1987, Pori

An opportunity to own a piece of motoring history: a Celica with pop-up headlights. The car has not passed its inspection and requires repair; the defects are listed below.

Toyota Celica ST162, 2.0 Twin Cam 16. Fourth-generation coupé.

First registered on 21 May 1987. Imported from Sweden; I have owned it since 2023. Manual transmission, sunroof.

The paintwork, interior and seats are in good condition for their age. The engine runs and the car moves under its own power.

The battery discharges when the car is stationary: something is drawing current, and the cause has not been found. A battery isolator switch has been installed to disconnect the power while parked. This does not affect driving.

The inspection has expired and the car is prohibited from being driven. The previous periodic inspection took place on 1 October 2025 and was passed. The car has not been presented for inspection again.

Defects:

- left front parking light does not work

- front brakes are binding

- play in the inner end of the right track rod

- power-steering pump is leaking

- left driveshaft seal is leaking

- rear brake discs are rusty, callipers seized

- upper mounts of the rear shock absorbers have rusted through

- battery discharges (see above)

Servicing and repairs carried out last year (receipts retained)

- valve-cover gasket replaced (oil leak; retaining bolts were loose)

- rear section of exhaust replaced; sports silencer fitted (twin outlet)

- left front shock absorber replaced; right one had previously been replaced at the same garage

- clamp on the left inner CV-joint boot replaced and fresh grease added to the joint

- brake-calliper mounting-bolt thread repaired with a Helicoil insert

- rear brakes dismantled and freed off

Tax: no outstanding tax. Basic vehicle tax is €219 per year.

Collection: Pori, Satakunta, by arrangement. The car may not legally be driven on public roads, so transport, for example by trailer or towing, is the buyer's responsibility and expense.

First registration date in Finland: 30 January 2023
