Solifer 550DL touring caravan, 1991, well-preserved retro caravan, Janakkala

Retro ... ? Surely this can already be called retro, and this is a remarkably well-preserved example in largely original condition. It appears that the upholstery, wall materials, lighting and other fittings are mostly the original items installed at the Solifer factory. As we understand it, this is a genuine Made in Finland product, manufactured in Koivukylä, Vantaa, in 1991. The front of the caravan has a comfortably sized U-shaped seating area, with a lowering table that can be converted into a bed for two. The kitchen is in the centre, with a wardrobe and bathroom facilities on the other side. At the front is a transverse double bed, with an additional bed above it for one person (warning label: max. 80 kg). Naturally, its age is visible, but overall it is in very presentable and tidy condition. The interior in particular has been very well preserved. An excellent basis for further conversion, although it will also serve perfectly well as it is, for example as additional accommodation.

The caravan has not undergone a full condition inspection, but the following is known:

• The refrigerator works on gas and electricity (230 V)

• The cooker works on gas

• The Primus liquid-circulation heating works on mains electricity when a 12 V pump is connected as the circulation pump

• The Primus electric cartridge is in working order

• The caravan's lighting and almost all other electrical equipment are operational

• The fresh-water pump works, and water comes from both the kitchen and toilet taps

• There is also a microwave in the cupboard which switches on (heating function not tested)

• Moisture measurements were also carried out out of interest, indicating that the body is exceptionally dry.

No smells or significant signs of moisture were detected.

Noted defects:

• The Primus does not start on gas (there is a leak somewhere inside the boiler); the gas line has its own shut-off valve

• The Primus 230 V circulation pump does not work (a 12 V pump can be used to circulate the fluid)

• The toilet cassette flush does not work

• The tyres are 16 years old

• A slight “flex” can be felt in the floor in front of the kitchen

• The kitchen roof vent is missing its blackout blind

• The bedroom curtain is torn

• Normal wear and tear consistent with age and use

This is a caravan over 30 years old, so it is neither new nor as good as new, but perhaps better preserved than average for its age. If you have any questions about the item, we recommend visiting and inspecting it in person.
