Chevrolet Express Van Starcraft 2500, 1999, Kouvola

A reasonably well-preserved Chevrolet Express 2500, brought in by Metroauto, for autumn evenings! - Only 375,000 km driven.

The reserve price is, in my opinion, very reasonable, so feel free to bid. However, please also note the faults and deficiencies mentioned.

Technically completely faultless - The gearbox has, among other things, 100% new oil and changes gear flawlessly; the torque converter lock-up works, and it drives smoothly. X1R additive has been added to the differential. The engine oil has only been used for a few thousand kilometres, with a generous dose of X1R there too. It is still clear, although this is quite a sooty engine. The PMD has been moved to a cooler location; otherwise it appears to be completely standard. I have not added any fluids during the last 8,000 km; the vehicle starts and preheats even in freezing weather.

Two sets of tyres, with the summer tyres being almost unused Linglongs (also with a recent date stamp) - The studded tyres are poorer; two of them in particular seemed completely worn out, so I deemed them illegal.

Bodywork better than average - The sills and lower door edges have already been attended to, and the rear corners need a little more work before the next inspection (already fully tapped over in the photos; not bad). The rear bumper has been replaced at some point and is in excellent condition. The front bumper is also fairly good. There is a crack in the windscreen. The interior is basically tidy; I have just replaced the plastic steering wheel with a leather one.

Everything electrical works - Windows and central locking. Two keys, and the remote control works.

The air conditioning does not work; I have not investigated it. It was working and serviced at least in 2020, so it may only need recharging.

Extras:

Kenwood Bluetooth stereo, also prepared for a subwoofer/amplifier.

Very bright interior lights, properly installed.

New, smart chrome marker lights front and rear. Bull bar.

LED auxiliary light.

Note: The rear frame needs work in the usual places before the next inspection - see the photos.

Light commercial vehicle, tax €85/year. My insurance has been €120/year. No speed limiter or tachograph, and neither is required. This vehicle is technically sound, so fuel consumption has been 11.5–13 L/100 km. With taller tyres and other inexpensive modifications for these vehicles (software, downpipe, gearing), this could be reduced further; I did not get that far.

Note that all of these vehicles face this job every year if the rear frame is not properly protected or completely replaced, so those “sound” ones for sale may be much worse than this one, even if they have just passed inspection. Looking at the bodies and overall appearance, they probably are. This one has no decorative plastics or bumper covers hiding damage.

The vehicle has been improved and serviced with the intention of keeping it for years. Cleaning, welding and protecting the frame, chassis and inner body panels with oily rustproofing would have been the next job. It was a little too much work for me now, although it certainly will not frighten someone used to these.

New Monroe rear shock absorbers are also included, although the old ones may not actually be faulty. I simply felt they could be a little firmer, so they were ready to fit. I have noticed no clear faults with the brakes, joints or anything else; there are no knocks or other unusual noises.
