Spinner lures are popular and versatile fishing lures, used especially for catching predatory fish such as pike, zander and perch. They are generally made of plastic or wood and have a metal or plastic spinner blade that guides the lure's movement in the water.

Features of spinner lures:

• Spinner blade: The blade at the front of the lure affects its swimming action and depth. The blade angle and size determine how deep the lure dives and how strongly it vibrates.

• Body: May be floating, sinking or suspending (remaining suspended underwater when stopped).

• Hooks: Usually one or more treble hooks, which may be barbed or barbless.

• Swimming depth: Spinner lures can dive to different depths depending on the model and retrieve speed.

Ways to use spinner lures:

• Spinning: Well suited to shallow and deeper waters, depending on the blade angle and the lure's buoyancy.

• Trolling: Often used when trolling from a boat, with the blade helping to keep the lure at a suitable depth.

• Stop-and-go and jerking techniques: Many spinner lures can be used with techniques such as stop-and-go (pauses and retrieves), making the lure imitate an injured prey fish.

Spinner lures are effective for catching predatory fish in particular, and their swimming action and colours should be selected according to the prevailing conditions.
