Everyman’s dream!

Made by a village blacksmith, the Pilke-Hirmu chews through winter firewood in an instant and makes the neighbours jealous.

Based on the information available, the machine has a three-cylinder Suzuki Swift engine, which has been overhauled at some point (it sounds quite smooth). It drives a hydraulic pump, transferring power through a valve block to a more than sufficiently sturdy cylinder which, when the lever is pulled, cuts and splits the wood. When the lever is turned in the other direction, the cylinder and blade return to the upper position, while the conveyor belt moves via an ingenious chain system and carries the finished firewood into a pile or bag.

The machine has a tow bar for moving it, plus support legs at the front and rear. It also has a spare wheel. By removing the counter-blade, it can also be used as a log splitter. Alternatively, a handy DIY enthusiast could turn it into a briquette press or some other kind of press.

It runs quietly, so it won’t disturb relations with the neighbours (at least not because of the noise...)

Sold for repair (although it worked well during testing) or for spare parts.

Defects and other observations

The contraption arrived in the yard unexpectedly and uninvited. It has been tested and works, but there may be hidden faults. Old and homemade. Sturdily built, so fairly heavy.
