BMW 325iX Touring, 1989, Helsinki

A rare opportunity. BMW 325iX Touring from a car enthusiast’s collection.

This is an exceptionally rare BMW E30. A BMW 325iX with this equipment is very rarely available. It is worth noting that the car’s original purchase price was higher than that of an M3 from the same year.

The car passed its inspection last year. It has travelled only approx. 230,000 km, which is very little for its age. The car is in original condition, so there are some areas of emerging rust here and there that require repair. Mechanically, it is excellent. It runs like clockwork, the gearbox shifts well and the other mechanical systems are in order. The only repair needed is to the front driveshaft: a boot has been split for some time, causing the outer joint to click. A used replacement part is included.

The interior has sports seats upholstered in beige leather. There are also some points to note. The outer bolsters of the driver’s seat require refurbishment. The fabric section of the headlining probably needs to be glued back to the backing board; it is hanging in places. The fabric is otherwise intact.

The car has air conditioning, which will probably need recharging. It has been standing unused for several years. The rear brakes were repaired for the inspection, as were the brake pipes and hoses. Note: the car originally had ventilated rear discs, found only on the estate IX model when equipped with air conditioning. They are extremely rare and unavailable elsewhere. New BMW ventilated brake discs are included in the boot. We moved house four years ago, and the rear callipers and their mounting brackets went missing during the move. They may be on the trailer containing a complete, loose 325iX drivetrain (186,000 km). This includes the engine, gearbox, transfer case, front and rear differentials, and driveshafts.

This complete drivetrain is included in the sale. In addition, there is another engine in parts which had a Mosselman turbo kit. It is not certain that all parts are present. This is also included in the sale.

The car has other “rarities” too. It was specially ordered without a sunroof. We have not seen another 325i without one. Shadowline trim all around. It has iX “bottle-top” wheels fitted. For summer, there are extremely rare 15-inch “Kreuzspeichen” wheels, plus another set of 14-inch Kreuzspeichen wheels.

Bidders are strongly advised to visit in person and assess what is being offered. This is an old vehicle in original condition. There is work to do if you want to make it excellent, but it is fully usable as it stands. Many valuable spare parts are included. In our opinion, it is a perfect restoration project for a true enthusiast—and another one may not come along soon.
