PLACER 36 sailing yacht, Helsinki

Out at sea the wind is free, and for sailing enthusiasts there is an exceptional opportunity. A PLACER 36 is now for sale – a sturdy solid-laminate boat built in Rauma by professionals, with the interior designed and completed by an avid sailor to meet even demanding needs.

This 36-foot hull combines space and practicality: the interior dimensions offer the comforts of a larger boat, with generous headroom and room to move for even a tall sailor. In the bow there is an exceptionally spacious V-berth, the saloon sofas provide wide lounging areas with the backrests removed, and behind the galley there is a good-sized quarter berth with full standing headroom in the passageway. On the starboard side there is a spacious toilet and direct access to a large storage space extending all the way to the transom.

Technically and in terms of equipment, the boat has been thoroughly built and maintained:

• Power unit: A reliable Volvo Penta 2003 freshwater-cooled engine installed new, with the heat exchanger, exhaust manifold and waterways thoroughly cleaned and inspected with new gaskets, plus a new raw-water pump.

• Sails and rigging: Two mainsails (one as a spare), well-kept Genoa I and III on furlers, spinnaker with equipment, and an extra-light full-size genoa that goes to the masthead for light-wind conditions. The boom has handy lazy jacks and a sail bag, and sail handling is managed by quality Andersen winches as well as two-summer-old Lewmar #40 self-tailing sheet winches.

• Comfort and electrics: New Gori folding propeller (-23), efficient Webasto Air Top 3500, solar panel with controller, shore power, chest-style refrigerator, cooker, and electric water toilet with stainless steel suction-emptying holding tank (-23). The berths and saloon mattresses, including upholstery, were renewed in 2022.

• Hull and steering: Whitlock rod-driven steering without play. The thick antifouling layer built up over the years has been carefully ground away, cracked keel fillers opened and the keel joint found to be in good condition. The boat also has a swim platform with deep steps.

The boat has been on dry land for the third summer in a row, and now it is time to pass this fine package on. There is still some minor refurbishment and cleaning to do – the trim needs fastening, the fuel tank needs cleaning, the bottom needs painting, the keel needs filling, and the solar-powered toilet fan, batteries and ropes need replacing. However, this is not an overwhelming project, but a ready-made project for someone wanting to get on the water.

An easy and sure-handed boat for solo sailing, obedient to its helmsman and making stern-to mooring easy.
