A torque wrench is a precise measuring tool for adjusting tightening torque. It is designed for tightening threaded connections so that the clamping force is accurately known and matched to the material used and the strength of the bolt and nut. A torque wrench is particularly suitable for vehicle repair and other situations where the manufacturer has specified the required tightening torque exactly.

The wrench works with a mechanical click mechanism that gives a "click" sound when the set force is reached. The torque scale is located in the handle, and adjustment is made by turning the handle. When the desired torque has been set, the wrench is locked with the safety catch at the end of the handle.
