Silver Marks and Kopeks from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Varkaus

For sale: a truly impressive collection of treasures found among an estate collector’s belongings: silver coins from the 19th century and the early 20th century.

The markka and pennia coins are mainly from the time of Alexander II. The coins were minted at the Helsinki Mint, and on the reverse side under the right tail feather of the eagle you can see, for example, a small S, which comes from the surname initial of the mint’s then director (for example August Friedrich Soldan or Isak Gustaf Sundell).

In addition, Russian Imperial coins minted at the Saint Petersburg Mint during the reign of Nicholas II are also for sale.
