A torque wrench is a precision instrument for setting torque. It is designed to tighten threaded joints so that the applied force is known and matched to the material and the strength of the bolt and nut. The torque wrench is especially suitable for vehicle work and other situations where the manufacturer specifies the required tightening torque.

The wrench uses a mechanical click mechanism that gives an audible "click" when the set torque is reached. The torque scale is in the handle and the setting is made by turning the handle. When the desired torque is set, the wrench is locked with the lock at the end of the handle.
