The torque wrench is a precision instrument for setting torque. It is designed to tighten threaded joints so the applied force is known and matched to the material used and the strength of the bolt and nut. The wrench is particularly suitable for vehicle work and other situations where the manufacturer specifies an exact tightening torque.

The wrench works with a mechanical click mechanism that gives a "click" sound when the set torque is reached. The torque scale is in the handle and adjustment is made by turning the handle. Once the desired torque is set, the wrench is locked with a locking knob at the end of the handle.
