Museum-certified Opel Omega, 1993, Kotka

The vehicle has been with the same owner in Turku from new – 33 years.

The owner turned 90 at the end of 2025 and did not renew their driving licence.

A neighbour then rescued the car and had it museum-inspected without any modifications.

After that I bought the car for myself.

The car is completely original and very well preserved.

Over 33 years it has been undersealed/seal-treated several times and the underside will last for ages.

Other comparable cars have long since been scrapped.

Despite extensive searches, the exact service record could not be found, although everything showed the car had been well cared for.

So a full service was carried out as a precaution.

Included are very good winter tyres on the original alloy wheels.

The next inspection is due late 2029.

The car drives superbly with no unusual noises.

The interior is flawless: headlining not sagging and seats not worn.

NO LONGER THESE PROBLEMS...

EGR valve – Exhaust gas recirculation. It carbon-furs, especially on short trips. Symptoms include jerking, loss of power and a warning light.

* DPF particulate filter (diesel) – Can clog if the car is used mainly for short trips and the filter does not get hot enough to burn off soot.

* SCR/AdBlue system (diesel) – Sensors, pump or heater may fail. Repairs can cost hundreds or even thousands of euros.

* Turbo – Generally durable, but neglecting oil changes or repeated cold stress shortens its life.

* Direct injection (petrol) – Carbon builds up on intake valves since modern petrol no longer cleans them.

* Timing belt in oil bath (“wet belt”) – In some engines the belt can fail prematurely and cause costly engine damage.

* Dual-mass flywheel – Wears, especially on diesels. Symptoms are vibration and knocking.

* Automatic transmissions – Are good, but require oil changes, even if the manufacturer sometimes mentions a “lifetime” fluid.

* Complex electronics – Cameras, radars, touch screens, sensors and control units increase the chance of faults.

ONLY TROUBLE-FREE — HEAD-TURNING — PLEASANT MILES...

Must let it go because there is no longer a storage space.

On outings it does attract deserved surprise: “Are these still around?”
