Ford Escort, 1991, Tampere

For sale: a convertible Escort not in regular use.

The car was imported from Germany and first registered in Finland in 2004. During the 2010s it was off the register for several years. The previous inspection before this year was in 2021. For the last c. 5 years the car has been stored in a dry, warm garage. Oil and spark plugs were changed in the spring. The engine started without issues. The first inspection failed due to a rear right wheel bearing. After replacing the bearing it passed inspection on 4 May 2026.

The mileage (approx. 90,000 km) cannot be guaranteed, but judging by the lack of interior wear it could well be correct. A German-language sticker in the engine bay indicates the timing belt was changed at 72,872 km.

The car is tidy outside and the interior is intact. The dashboard has no cracks. The fabric soft top is in good condition and intact; no water ingress has been noticed. There is little rust, apparent repair need only around the battery (photo). The sides are neat because they have been refurbished at some point. Paint gloss varies by area; with polishing of the bonnet the whole car would be at least an 8+. The rear subframe boxes look repaired (photos).

After long storage it has now been driven just over 300 km, and the following was noted:

• engine idle is occasionally uneven when warm (listen to the video)

• original air cleaner and housing have been replaced. Because of this there is an odd pipe in the breather hose and a filter to prevent oil spread (see photo)

• tyres are fairly new (see tyres), but due to long storage there is some bouncing (and a convertible does not need winter tyres)

• handling remains somewhat unsettled, probably due to the tyres (205/40R17)

A driver who can blip the throttle while rolling at traffic lights will drive it smoothly without doing anything to the car. Leaves the polishing for long winter evenings.
