Volkswagen Golf Variant, 2003, Kotka

Golf on listalla viankorjauksia varten. Passed emissions despite the exhaust apparently leaking according to the inspector. Slight brake work needed and there are some rust spots that didn’t look too bad to my eye. Fix those and it should be fine for another year. It would be good to replace the timing belt as there’s no clear record of the last change apart from a note in the service book from 2015.

Only one set of tyres and wheels — the stud tyres and steel rims currently fitted. Space-saver spare and jack included. A large subwoofer set used to be fitted in the boot and a second 12V battery was installed in the spare-wheel well for the subwoofer. The audio gear has been removed but the battery and an RCA lead from the head unit remain routed to the boot.

Other issues:

• Central locking works but the buttons on the keys do not — I haven’t tried replacing the batteries, so that may be the fault.

• When opening the driver’s door the handle can be sticky and sometimes needs a firmer pull to open. The interior handle works fine.

• When I removed the subwoofer set the boot lid worked fine, but later it would not open while I was photographing the car, so there are few photos of the boot.

• Rust here and there and a hole in the front left sill. See pictures!

• Also note the inspection sticker comments about the brakes and exhaust.

• Before inspection the exhaust was repaired on a very small budget, using what was available in the garage, because it was leaking much more. Still, it passed the emissions check adequately.

• The rear wiper does not work.

• Air conditioning (blows reasonably cool, seems to work — worth servicing to keep it that way)

• Sports seats at the front

• Engine heater and interior socket

• Tow bar

• 2× keys

• Service book

• Front seat heaters

• Electric windows front and rear
