The wooden archive shelves on the National Archives' Snelmanninkatu side, part completed in 1928, have for decades held bound volumes of Finnish knowledge, skill and stories!


The shelving set consists of end panels approximately 2400 mm high, shelves 1140 mm long and metal angle brackets that support the shelves.


The boards are approx. 250 mm wide and 25 mm thick laminated boards, made of pine. The boards have a brownish translucent finish.


The lot for sale includes 4 end panels, 18 shelves and 30 angle brackets, and can be built into one approx. 3.5 m wide, three-bay shelving unit or modified into a custom configuration.


The pieces are detached from each other.



Defects and other observations

The boards show some dimensional variation, colour variation and age patina from use, as well as screw holes. However, it is wood – the boards can be planed back to a lighter wood tone and refinished if desired. There may be small panel nails in the boards.
